Better Business Bureau Serving the Pacific Southwest (BBB) appointed Optima Tax Relief recipient of the 2021 Torch Prize for ethics in Orange County. The Torch Award is BBB’s most prestigious honor bestowed on outstanding organizations for their dedication to integrity and ethical business practices.

“We are delighted to have won our second BBB Torch Award for Ethical Business Practices,” said David King, CEO of Optima. When we formed Optima with a handful of employees, we believed our ethical principles would bring us success. Ten years later, and hundreds of employees later, the Torch Award validates the unwavering commitment of our team. I couldn’t be prouder to be an Optimian!

To select Torch Award recipients, an independent panel of community and business leaders assesses companies for their performance in four key areas: character, culture, customers, community; more specifically, the character of the organization’s leadership, how an authentic culture is fostered, how the company prioritizes its relationship with customers, and the organization’s impact in their community.

“Taking care of our customers, our staff and our community has been the foundation of our business from day one,” said Christine Bui, Chief Customer Officer of Optima. “Our people go above and beyond to deliver the best experience and the best results for our customers and for each other. One of the many reflections of our staff’s passion for helping others is seen in their extraordinary commitment to our Optima Cares initiatives, which directly support social and charitable services within the local community.

By winning this year’s award, Optima becomes a two-time Torch Award recipient, having won the honor in 2017. (According to BBB policy, a company can only receive a Torch award every four years, so 2021 the first year Optima was eligible after receiving the honor in 2017.) Additionally, to qualify for a Torch Award, the BBB also requires organizations to be:

  • A company not affiliated with the government
  • In business for three years or more
  • Obtained an “A” rating from the BBB
  • Have fulfilled all financial obligations

The Torch Prize is just the latest in a string of awards Optima has won this year, including Orange County Civic 50, Top Workplaces USA, and several Stevie Awards for best-in-class consumer service.

“The Torch Prize, along with the other awards we have been honored to receive this year, all stem from the uplifting people-centered culture upon which Optima is built,” said Kimberly Carson, Director of Human Resources at ‘Optima. “Having a supportive and nurturing environment unified around always doing the right thing is what fuels our success. “

To honor this year’s winners and finalists, as well as several high school students receiving scholarships, the BBB hosted a special event at Hyatt Regency John Wayne Airport in Newport Beach. The main presentation, given by Bob Dalton, Founder and CEO of Bag & Ashes. Dalton – who started his business to help those struggling with homelessness after observing his mother’s struggles with homelessness – gave an inspiring talk on the value of aligning entrepreneurship with social responsibility.

“This is the fifth year that BBB has recognized outstanding companies in Orange County for their strong commitment to doing things the right way,” said Shelley Bradley, Director of Signature Events for BBB in the Southwest Department. of the Pacific. “Orange County’s economy is full of diverse industries, each one excelling in its own way.
